Another milestone

We hit another milestone.  Eight months.  Most days I'd say the pregnancy is going by fast.  What's been most enjoyable is feeling the baby rolling and kicking around.  We try to guess if that was an arm, a foot, a knee, or a shoulder.  We've pretty much figured out what the bum feels like and since we had an ultrasound last week (read about our hospital scare below...) we know the head is already positioned for "take off".

Here's our latest belly shot.  Please excuse the post workout glow.

Unplanned visit to Labor and Delivery

What a scare!

On Monday I woke up feeling a bit under the weather. By Tuesday, Brian was very concerned, as I was I. In addition to having a flu bug, we realized sometime in the late evening the baby, who usually kicks and rolls constantly (even as I type this!), was still. Immediately we called our physician's office but because of the rain storms, they had lost power so we were re-directed to Stanford/Lucille Packard (our local hospital) then sent to the Labor and Delivery floor where they were waiting for us.

On the 2-3 mile car ride to the hospital, fighting back the tears (and losing the battle to the stomach flu – sorry again to Brian’s car mats and my Uggs…), we arrived at the hospital around 9:00 am thinking after a quick assessment and we'd be home in bed resting in no time. Nope. Rather, they hooked me up to a fetal stress monitor and an IV and began loading me up with fluids. I was severely dehydrated. Nine hours later and three bags of fluids, the equivalent of 30 cups of water (with anti-nausea medication), we departed the hospital.

The bad news: It was a stressful, emotional day that put us both into a bit of a scare. We both agreed that the next time we show up at Labor and Delivery, it will be in March to welcome a healthy baby into our lives.

The good news: We spent nine hours listening to our little baby's heart beat. It was the greatest lullaby I could have asked for to comfort me during that stressful moment. We also had an ultrasound to measure the fluids around the baby which meant while they were measuring fluids, we were able to gaze into the monitor and enjoy seeing our baby. The nurse took an image of the baby's ultrasound for us but frankly, it looks blobby and hard to define.

The best news of all: Baby is healthy kicking, rolling, and jabbing me in the ribs. I'm feeling pretty good myself. I still have little bouts of nausea but no complaints. Our baby is fine and that is all that matters.
We're at 32 weeks - for those of you still trying to figure out pregnancy math, that means eight weeks until the due date! The baby is just less than 4 lbs and about 16 inches long. Over the next 4-6 weeks the baby should grow in length by maybe 2 inches and almost double in weight.

But before all this happened...

My lovely friends threw me a baby shower!  Here are a couple shots from the day.  It was so fun seeing everyone.  My only regret is I wish I could have had more 1:1 time with each of you.  Baby Mack has so many awesome Aunties.  This kid is going to be spoiled with love!

Final days of 2009

We made a quick trip to Southern CA to see the soon-to-be Logan grandparents, enjoy our annual dinner get-together with Brian's old college roomie Jay and his fabulous girlfriend Christine, and to celebrate the engagement of our friends Candice and Jon.  For pictures on Candie and Jon's engagement party, visit our friend, Stephanie's blog.  She is an amazing photographer!  And because we promised to not post this, a smooch caught on video.  Sorry Jay and Christine; we couldn't resist!

My parents are super excited for the arrival of Baby Mack. This is the first grandchild for the Logan family and the 11th grandchild for the McCormick family.  Our baby will have tons of cousins, second cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, and grandparents to meet.  We are blessed to have such close families and can't wait for the little bugger to join in the family fun.

Here are a few belly shots at week 29.  The the baby is about the size of a butternut squash weighing between 2 1/2 to 3 pounds.  I've been calling the baby PelĂ© lately because I'm convinced this kid is going to be a great soccer player with all this kicking!!

Butternut Squash- to give you a visual of what the baby's size is.

Here we are at the start of Week 29

Proud Grandma rubbing my belly for good luck (and probably feeling a kick, too!)

Farewell 2009.  Welcome 2010!!

Christmas Goodies for Baby M

Welcome to the third trimester. Time is zipping by and in about 12 weeks this little bundle of joy is going to make its presence in the world.

Christmas was good to Baby McCormick!  It started with Auntie Candice and Uncle Jon visiting from London.  They gave the baby-to-be the cutest Paddington Bear and onsie to remind the little bugger of their family far away in the U.K.  Thanks for the visit and we can't wait to see you again!

Then on Christmas we spent a wonderful day in Wilton with the McCormick side of the family.  Baby M was given the most adorable onsie that says "Best Gift Ever" on it.  We couldn't agree with you more!  Thanks soon-to-be Uncle Rick, Aunt Paula, and Cousins Kevin and Ryan.

Next steps...finishing up our registries at Lullabye Lane, Target, and Pottery Barn Kids, painting the baby's room, and assembling the crib!

Week 27: Glucose Test

We had our glucose test the other day to rule out gestational diabetes. At my previous appointment, the nurse handed me this orange drink and with a disgusted look on her face and informed me that I needed to drink this at the next appointment. She then proceeded to tell me how terrible the taste was and that a lot of women don't like it.

Ummm, thanks for the pep talk!

The big day came and with advice from my friends who have already taken the test, I chilled the drink and downed it in the 15 minute time span they require. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. Ok, it wasn't great; especially on an empty stomach, but I survived. The best way to describe it would be like drinking Orange Crush but with more sugar - and for breakfast, bleh!

By the time I arrived at the doctor's office for my blood draw I was pretty nauseous. My body isn't used to that much sugar and those of you who know me know that sugar is my vice. While also at the doctor, we were able to hear the baby's heart beat again - always a treat! We also learned that the little bugger is about two pounds and about 14 inches. I'm feeling kicks, rolls, and hiccups all of the time.

And the best news of all...my tests came back fine. I'm slightly anemic but I can take some supplements to support that. Phew, another successful milestone for our miracle baby

Baby's first ornament

Mom was in San Francisco with her friend Linda for some retail therapy and to soak in the holiday spirit the city has to offer.  We were fortunate enough to meet them for the evening, along with Kevin (who just had a birthday).

Being the excited grandma, which we love, she found the CUTEST ornament for us to place on our Christmas tree.  Since we don't know the sex of the baby we call "it" Baby Mack.

We just love the ornament and are now inspired to actually go get a tree and decorate the house.  Thanks, Mom!!!  You've officially inspired us to get into the holiday spirit!!
