Babymoon

Babymoon.  Who thinks this stuff up?  Well, whoever it was, we totally bought into it!

So what is a babymoon?  It's supposedly a get-away for the parents-to-be to reconnect and have one last hooray before their duo becomes a trio.  Typically the weekend is spent relaxing and enjoying each other's company.  While we are in total agreement that couple time is important, we are also masters of multi-tasking.  So we had the most unconventional Babymoon one could imagine.

We spent the weekend in San Francisco, which is only about 35 miles from our home.  My brother lives in the city and is in total apartment makeover mode.  And he needed our help.  Saturday (Day 1 of Babymoon) was spent in the Marina district working on Operation Love Den. Check out our other blog to learn more about that.

Saturday night we met our friends the Kopeck's and our nephew Mike, who also lives in SF, for a night on the the town. First we had drinks, dinner and wine brought from our stash at Globe which was conveniently located a few blocks from our hotel.  After our indulgent dinner, we headed to the Bubble Lounge for a nightcap.  Now, if any of you know this crew, there is no such thing as ONE drink...it's always a marathon...  As an almost 9 1/2 month pregnant gal surrounded by girls in mini dresses looking like they stepped off the runway, I felt a little awkward.  And, I definitely got some funny stares.  Hey, whatever, I'm a trooper!  Our cocktail waitress even brought me a plate of strawberries and dipping chocolate. I'm pretty sure it was sympathy food for having to skip all the drinking fun but very thoughtful.  Several Remy VSOP's and Crown Royale with pineapple back shots later (translation, at least two more hours of drinking) we stumbled out of the bar.  I too was stumbling from exhaustion and a certain husband who was leaning on me to walk a straight-ish line.  As always, another fun night in the city with our friends.

Sunday Brian and I spent the morning and afternoon walking around the Embarcadero soaking up the sunshine and enjoying some duo before trio time.  A perfect end to a perfect weekend!

Recap: it was the best Babymoon, ever!

Here are some pictures that show the AMAZING view we had from our hotel room of Coit Tower and the Transamerica building and some fun shots from our walk out to one of the piers.

Hellllooooo, belly!

Update on Little Mack: The little monster (I say that lovingly) is still moving about and kicking like the Karate Kid he/she dreams to one day become. Hi-yaaa!

We had our weekly OB appointment the other day and they did an ultrasound to ensure the baby was in the correct position.  It was; head down and ready for exit. Our doctor seemed pleasantly surprised at the activity level this jumping bean has. During the ultrasound the baby was kicking it's feet and punching with its arms. Needless to say, it was very entertaining. Our doctor said that an active baby is a sign of a healthy and happy baby. Music to our ears...

Update on Momma Mack: We are officially in week 36, otherwise known as month nine. My belly is HUGE! No, seriously, it is. You know it is when you can't tie your shoes or see your feet for that matter. I've slowed down a little; breathing is a challenge (especially when a certain someone is kicking my ribs) and workouts are becoming shorter and less intense. Overall, I have no complaints.

One of my favorite pastimes is to sit and stare at my moving belly. I swear this kid is all over the place. In a matter of minutes my stomach will reshape itself from round to square to oblong to wiggly. It's hilarious. Okay, a little (I lied, a lot) uncomfortable, but hilarious nonetheless.  And I'm overjoyed knowing the baby is healthy and happy.

Knowing we have literally a few weeks until the due date, we're trying hard to embrace these final days and relish in the journey we've taken to get to today.  We are terribly excited about this kid entering our lives and cannot wait for you to meet the little bugger.

Countdown

Has anyone else noticed the ticker on the right that counts down the days?  It's at 32 days!  Yikes, that is around the corner.

Last night whilst Brian suffered with a nasty cold (poor guy!) I laundered all of the baby's clothes to prepare for his/her arrival.  I was afraid the washing machine would eat up those tiny little socks but everything is accounted for.

Now is the big decision; which outfits do we pack to bring the baby home in? Hmmm....

Grandma saves the day!

Last weekend my mom came to visit and we had a whirlwind weekend of shopping, organizing, and assembling of the baby's room. It's about 95% complete and the stress of trying to get everything ready before the baby arrives has been lifted; thanks again, mom!

My favorite addition to the baby's room.

In my parent’s storage unit lived a weathered rocking chair. My great grandmother rocked my mom and Aunt in this chair and my siblings and I were also rocked in this chair. This chair has had multiple layers and colors of paint and chair padding and for the past 35 years has been neglected. Needless to say, it was in bad shape but held so many precious memories that no one had the heart to get rid of it. When we learned we'd be having a baby, I secretly hoped to inherit the chair. Thankfully my mom was thinking the same thing. After a long stay at the antique refinisher's shop, then another stay at the upholstery’s shop, the chair arrived with mom last Friday night.

It's perfect in size, color, and most of all in charm. I couldn't be happier. Coincidently, my friend Sara gave me a foot stool that after being reupholstered in the same fabric is a near perfect match. We can't wait to rock our baby in this chair and create new memories to add to the many memorable stories that already exist with our family heirloom.

Here is a picture of this adorable rocking chair and the baby's crib fully decked out in its jungle theme.

Baby McCormick is six weeks away!
