No baby, yet...

We hit the 41st week of pregnancy yesterday, which means that we are in the late term stage of pregnancy (a normal pregnancy is 40 weeks).

While I've enjoyed being pregnant most of the time, I'm really feeling pregnant these days.  Aside from my ginormous belly, the weight and pressure from the baby has gone from uncomfortable to intolerable.  He/She is a fiesty little one and is striking nerves with each painful jab.  Its little bum keeps swaying from side to side and its little legs enjoy rolling about.  Cute...yes, but painful!

Since this kid clearly has no intention of moving out,  we will be inducing this weekend.  Like it or not, it's time for Baby McCormick to make an appearance.

Hopefully our next post will be a formal introduction to the little bugger.

In the meantime, here are some latest belly shots.  Yes, they were comparing my belly to a basketball. I won; I'm bigger!

Our little ram

Not that we subscribe to astrology but it's entertaining to read...

It turns out Baby Mack will not be a Pisces, like his/her mother.  Instead, it will be an Aries, like his/her grandmother.

Here is a summary of the Aries astrological type Provided by Tarot.com

Aries live life head first; after all, those horns on your head are not just for fighting. Your headstrong nature can make you a "battering ram" and woe is the person who stands in your way.
Aries are noted for courage and leadership qualities, primarily because you are nearly always ready for action. The need for excitement pushes you into new territory -- and as long as you are ahead of others while demonstrating confidence, chances are that they will follow you. As self-ordained leader of the pack, Aries fight for what you believe to be important. But it's not that Aries are fearless. Your courage is more of a commitment to face your fears and overcome them.

Aries motto is "Ready, fire, aim!" It may be backwards for others, but you'd rather figure out what to do while you are doing it. Impulsive actions, however, can bring you your share of trouble. While others are gathering information to make informed decisions, you are already on your way. As such, you could suffer from false starts. In fact, you Aries are so good at starting things that you can be off onto your next project before completing the previous one. As you Aries mature, you learn to slow down your reaction time in order to think about the consequences of your actions.

Element: Fire

Fire signs are naturally warm. A fire gives light and heat, but it doesn't get depleted as others feed on its warmth. One candle can bring light to a room and it won't burn any faster if ten people read from its light than if there was only one. Fire doesn't plan it next move; it isn't logical. It simply is in the moment and will burn what fuel is available without judgment or forethought. For this reason fire signs can successfully rely on their intuition and survival instincts.

The fire of Aries is spontaneous and hot. It's like a pile of dry kindling that burns fast but cannot sustain itself for the long haul.

First House: Self

The First House symbolizes our physical body and our personality -- how we appear to the outer world. It's not necessarily who we are; it's what we bring to a situation and how others see us. It represents our childhood, the beginning of any activity or even the start of a new relationship. It's not, however, about the other person; it's about how others see us. No doubt, everything starts with the First House.

Key Planet: Mars

Mars is called the "Angry Red Planet." In Greek mythology, Mars was the God of War. But Mars isn't only about fighting; it's about going somewhere, going anywhere. If someone is in our path, then, perhaps we must fight with them in order to keep going. Mars is like the gas pedal of our bodies. It's represents how we move forward in life. In any chart, Mars offers clues as to how we express our basic energy. As the key planet of Aries, it reminds us to "just do it."

Aries Greatest Strength:

Your courage to overcome fear
Aries Possible Weakness:

Not finishing things you start

Late Bloomer

Baby Mack has not made it's arrival into the world and it doesn't feel like he/she has any intention of doing so any time soon.  The more we wait, the larger my belly gets and the more uncomfortable I become (ouch, that lower back is aching!). It's quite frustrating but overall we are trying to keep a healthy, positive perspective.

On a brighter note, my Mom has been in town all week keeping me company and the whole Logan clan is in town celebrating Uncle Bobby's birthday.  It's been wonderful seeing the family and catching up.

Here are a few pictures of us at week 40, day 1.

Read the ticker!!!

Did you see the baby ticker on the right?  One more day.  One.  One!?!

I'm anxious to meet the little person who has been kicking me for months and discover who he/she is.

We are definitely in denial about how much our lives will be changing.  We already made dinner plans for this weekend to celebrate a very special birthday for my uncle Bobby, the famed author of Shakespear's Marlowe.   I'm pretty sure the family isn't saving any seats at Manresa for us. Darn!

Until then, we are bracing ourselves for days of wonderment, sleepless nights, and a lot of take out!

Wish us luck...

What's in a name?

Who knew naming a human could ensue such stress.  We've literally discussed names for several years now and still cannot concur.  We'll be entering the hospital with a handful of names; male, female, and gender neutral and decided we'll pick a name when we see the baby.  In the meantime, we've have had fun generating nicknames. Here's a brief listing of those names:

Baby Mack - this name originates from a nickname, Coach Mac, given from some of Brian's football coaching buddies. What I didn't learn until recently is that he never spelled Mack with a 'k'. Whoops, my bad for not spell checking with the hubby...
The Bean - at the first ultrasound, the baby was about the size of a bean.
YOUR child (said directly to Brian) - This one was only used during bouts of morning sickness or when I was getting severely kicked.
MY child - (said by me) - used when the baby wasn't making me want to hurl up my breakfast or fiercly kicking and bruising my organs.  This nickname isn't said very often...
The Kid - I suppose we're jumping ahead of ourselves and forgetting the baby years.  Denial is lovely.
It - When you don't know the gender, 'it' works...
Little Bugger - naturally, said in the nicest way possible.
Wiggle Bottoms - if you have had the opportunity to see this baby's butt protrude out of my stomach, you wouldn't question the name.  This kid is already a yogi in downward dog position.
Pele - this kid can really kick.
Little Monster - this baby loves, loves, loves to move around and kick like crazy.  The name suits the personality.

Tick Tock

Today is my birthday and many of you thought (hoped) the baby would arrive today.  Well he/she decided to have his/her own birthday.  That's okay.  To those of you who believe in the power of prayer, guardian angels, and/or all 'things miracle', hope and pray the baby arrives on March 13th, my friend Davy's birthday.  He is now one of my angels watching down on us and it would be an honor if we could have the baby share his birthday.
Doctor's update at week 38 and 6 days...

I'm fully effaced and .5 cm dilated.  The doctor said there is a 50/50 chance we will be making it to next week and he is very confident we won't go past 40 weeks.  The baby is ready and really low; apparently this means he/she is ready.  Folks, it's almost "go" time.

We'll keep you posted!
